We are committed to ensuring that school is open for pupils during term time, throughout the school year. Our priority is to promote and maintain good attendance, which we know is effective in supporting our pupils to develop the academic and wider skills they require to make progress and thrive.
On the very rare occasion when it is not possible, or is contrary to government guidance, for some or all pupils to attend school we have systems in place for pupils to access learning at home.
Depending on the needs of children and their individual learning styles, teachers have a range of methods for engaging children in learning which include:
- Home learning work packs emailed to parents via Google Classroom
- Live lessons using Google Classroom
- Subject-based apps
- 1:1 and small group wellbeing and therapy sessions
- 1:1 live support session for interventions including precision teaching.
Where pupils are resident in tier 4 placements and are either part-time at Hawkswood or gradually increasing their attendance, class teachers and the therapeutic team work closely with staff at the placement to ensure that appropriate work is available while the pupil may be too unwell to attend physically.
